Medical Team
Michale “Mickey” Barber, M.D., CEO/CMO of Cenegenics Carolinas
Mickey Barber, M.D., CEO/CMO of Cenegenics Carolinas, combined her personal interest in nutrition, exercise and health with her professional career as a physician to create a successful practice dedicated to helping her clients manage the aging process. She offers an integrative approach to age management medicine and professes the benefits of maintaining energy, health and sexual vigor through a shared responsibility of both the patient and doctor.
A board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Barber holds a medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed her residency in anesthesiology and internship in general surgery at Tulane University Medical Center, as well as a fellowship in obstetrical anesthesia at Harvard Medical School/Brigham & Women’s Hospital. She later earned Physician Training & Certification in Age Management Medicine from the Cenegenics Education and Research Foundation (CERF) and the Foundation for Care Management (FCM).
A former assistant professor at Tulane University where she was named Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year, Dr. Barber has lectured for conferences and groups across the country and been featured in numerous Charleston-area and national media outlets, including Vogue, Retirement Lifestyles and MSNBC.
It was Dr. Barber’s own health scare at age 42 that put her on the hard-fast path to a life change. Hypertension, high cholesterol, stress and possible chemical exposure left her in such poor health she landed in the Intensive Care Unit. It was a wake-up call for Dr. Barber who became certified in the practice of age management medicine. She now helps others take charge of the aging process and live their lives with renewed vigor.
Dr. Barber, a sports and fitness enthusiast, is a living example of the benefits of Cenegenics, even winning second place in a masters figure competition at the age of 48. She also actively works in the community to promote wellness, including helping improve the quality of school lunches through the Charleston County Medical Society.
A result of her commitment to excellence, Dr. Barber has received several honors throughout her career, including an award for Outstanding Graduate Resident in Anesthesiology, as well as Surgical Intern of the Year and Chief Resident, both at Tulane University. Her practice was also one of 10 businesses nominated as the 2007 Small Business of the Year from the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Barber is a member of the American Medical Association, South Carolina Medical Association and Charleston County Medical Society. In addition to being a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, she is also a frequent featured speaker at national Age Management Medical Group conferences.
While she was raised in Mansfield, Ohio, Dr. Barber currently lives with her husband and two children on Isle of Palms, S.C.
